The Shock Factory
In creating this piece I was tasked with creating an invention that was able to efficiently solve a novel problem seen throughout everyday life. I chose to create a piece that highlighted the toxicity of the Western beauty industry. I chose to do this by creating a machine that was brutal in appearance, and advertising it as a quick fix to every problem lack of beauty is blamed for. I used color and form to draw emphasis to the dangerous aspects of the invention, in order to highlight how dangerous procedures are presented in a positive, harmless light. I used repetition to demonstrate how these procedures are endorsed by playing upon people's deepest insecurities.
